
General Background
The Montessori Centre of Barrington offers half-day and full-day programs for children ages 3 - 6, plus a full-day kindergarten program. The Centre is licensed by the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth & Family, as well as the Rhode Island Department of Education.
Rey Ann Garcia-Mills
Director / TeacherRey Ann has been teaching in and directing Montessori schools for the past 30 years, and has helped open several Montessori programs on both the East and West Coasts. She is American Montessori Society (AMS) trained, receiving her credentials from the Montessori Western teacher training program. She has an Early Childhood Development and Child Psychology background from Mesa College in San Diego and Long Beach State College in California.
With her extensive background in Montessori, she has been able to help in the classroom as well as direct the Centre’s operations.
Rey Ann lives in Middletown with her husband and daughter.
Sandra Winters
Lead TeacherWe are proud and pleased to welcome Sandra back to our teaching team for her fifth year. Sandy has taught and performed for the last twenty years in New York City and the Tri-State area. She has been an Artist-In-Residence at pre-school and primary levels, and for the last nine years, has combined her love of children and the excitement of Children's Theatre and Music Appreciation. Sandra is a graduate of The University of New Hampshire (BFA in Classical Theatre Arts/Minor Ed.), with Post-Graduate credits from the famed American Academy of Dramatic Arts, New York, New York. Ms. Sandy is also American Montessori Society trained, and holds a Masters in Education.
In addition to lead teaching, Ms. Winters is the director of our drama department, which puts on the Holiday Sing and Mothers Day Tea.
Sandy resides in Providence with her husband and two children, both of whom are Montessori graduates. She also loves community drama at the Gamm Theatre in Pawtucket, and her dog, a shitz-tsu, Cricket. We appreciate all of Sandy’s fun, energy and ideas.
Jessica Sousa
Assistant TeacherWe are lucky to welcome Ms. Jess back for her fourth year at MCB - she has lots of energy and a great level of expertise. She recently completed a Montessori correspondence course, and just had a new baby girl!
Jessica graduated from Rhode Island College with a BS in Early Childhood Education, as well as a BA in Psychology. While attending college, she was fortunate to work at the Kent County YMCA Preschool, where she later became head teacher. Jessica has been working with children for the past eight years.
Ms. Sousa lives in Bristol with her husband and baby girl. She also volunteers as Chairwoman for the 102nd Family Readiness Group in Quincy, MA. In her spare time Jessica loves to play with their dog Cosmo, work in the yard and spend time with her family.
Kimberley Zeleznik
Assistant Lead TeacherWe are very pleased to welcome Ms. Kim as assistant lead teacher at MCB. She also plays music and sings with the children.
After graduating from UMass Lowell with a dual degree in Music Education and English, she went on to earn a Masters of Education in Elementary Education at UMass Amherst. Ms. Kim then taught elementary music for six years and job-shared as a first grade teacher for four years. In addition, this is her fourth year as a parent at the Centre.
Ms. Kim also teaches Sunday school, as well as writes curriculum for the church school. She lives in Barrington with her husband, two sons, and dog, James and enjoys running, reading and cooking. We are looking forward to Ms. Kim taking Montessori training in the very near future. She is a wonderful part of our team.
Nancy Edler
Class Assistant, Spanish Teacher and SubstituteWe are fortunate to have Nancy on our staff, now in her second year with us. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island with majors in math and education, and had over thirty years teaching experience at Portsmouth Middle School, when she retired in 2003. Ms. Nancy also has Life Certification in Math and English for grades 5 through 12, and teaches Spanish in our class. She has taken several Montessori day seminars and plans to enroll in AMS assistant training this coming summer.
Ms. Nancy lives in Bristol with her husband. She is an avid St. Louis Rams fan, and likes crossword puzzles, reading and gardening.
Caroline Bergeron
Teacher Assistant/Toddler TeacherCaroline graduated from Roger Williams University in May 2007 with a double major in Psychology and Early Childhood Education. For years she has worked as a Waterfront Director at various summer camps, and has held several other jobs working with children.
This is her first year at a Montessori school, and she thoroughly enjoys working with the students, teachers and parents. She has been substituting in the preschool, and will be working in the new Toddler Program when it starts in March 2008.
In her free time, Caroline enjoys reading, drawing and sewing, and spending time with friends and family. She also like to play with her Shih Tzu Oliver.
Susan Morettini
Teacher Assistant/SubstituteSusan joined the MCB team in March 2007. While living with her family in Colchester, Vermont, Susan received an Early Childhood background at Champlain College in Burlington. Susan furthered her knowledge of children’s needs while working as a teacher assistant in the public school systems of Colchester and Bristol/Warren. After 14 years of working primarily with Special Needs students, Susan retired in 2005. Since joining the MCB staff, Susan attended an Introduction to Montessori teaching at Gordon College in July 2007.
Susan and her husband Tony share their home in Bristol with their two dogs, Bailey and George, and their cat, Shadow. Tony and Susan have two daughters, Becky and Emily. Susan enjoys being an active member of the Bristol Highlands Association, where she can share her sense of community and love of reading, gardening and tennis with her neighbors.
