Lunches

We ask that children in all sessions bring their own lunches to school. Prepare foods so that your child can be self-sufficient in feeding her/himself. For example, cut fruits and vegetables and send oranges and tangerines peeled unless your child can already do this for her/himself. Please pack a well-balanced, nutritious meal, excluding candy and other highly sugared or salted foods with excessive amounts of additives and preservatives. Also, please label your child's lunchbox.

Snacks

In the Montessori classroom, children can often be seen having individual snack with a friend at a special table with flowers. This fosters grace and courtesy as well as friendships. In order for our school to promote this activity, we ask that two families be responsible for each month's snack during the year. This entails snack and juice for 15-20 children, depending on enrollment. A parent sign-up will be posted the second week of school; the school will provide snacks for the first week or until we can get the family snack program set up.

Sharing Days At School

Tuesdays and Thursdays will be sharing days at school. Children love to bring in items such as books, CDs, educational videos, something from a recent family vacation, or educational gifts from grandparents. All these are welcome - no toys or weapons please!

Birthdays

Children enjoy celebrating birthdays at school. Parents may check with the teacher beforehand to set up a Montessori birthday celebration, where the children learn and review the planetary rotation of the earth and the sun and the months of the year from the time they were born up to their present age. The teacher will have a picture packet and snack suggestions for the special day. Please do not pass out invitations at school. We have found that not all children are invited, and this can be upsetting to those children not invited.

Holidays

Holidays are celebrated in the classroom according to the discretion of the teacher.

Newsletters

At the end of each month, parents will receive a newsletter detailing the month's activities. This enables parents to follow up on school activities at home.  Newsletters will also be sent via email.

Parent-Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher conferences will be held in the fall and spring; please see the school calendar for exact dates. If you feel the need for an additional conference, please feel free to call the Centre and set up an appointment.
